Truth time

Today's weight: 248

The goal: 190

Fasting sugar: 125 (ideal number here would be under 120, but this is OK by me).

Possibly 190 sounds a little high as an ideal weight, but my top-end BMI weight is 178 (I am 5'11"), and when I am lifting weights 4-5 times a week, a lot of the weight is muscle rather than fat. I was at 197 about 8 years ago, and I could see 190 coming ... and then my thyroid quit working. I take a replacement thyroid medication, but my metabolism hasn't been the same since.

I encourage women especially to have their thyroids checked around age 35 and later if you have cold hands/feet or overall tiredness, or any other unexplained symptoms. The replacement meds are cheap.

This week: I will walk 3 times, 3-5 miles each time, and lift weights twice.

Hi Ellyn...here's some encouragement:

New Year's Day 2010, I weighed in at 244 (I'm 6'0"). I cut out all the rest of the soda from my diet (and I never had a sweet tooth, so my sugar intake became miniscule), started walking at lunch, and decided to not eat unless I was hungry and to stop eating once I was 'full' (sounds trivial, but it's a rewarding cycle...eat less, stomach shrinks, less hunger, eat less).

Anyway, today, New Year's Day 2011, I weigh 189.9 (hey, that's what the scale said, so I'm using that 0.lb to my advantage!). My goal was my high school weight (and I'm almost 35 years old) of 180, so I still have 10 pounds to go. But if my story means anything, it's that your goal can be achieved!

Best of luck you you. Remember that this is a long term goal and that you WILL hit plateaus where you stop losing (or even gain some back) for a while. Trust your program and keep working. It is SO worth it!

Is an under active thyroid a hassle, well porcine thyroid can relieve it all. With just a few weeks of taking it, you'll feel some great improvements.
