Breathe Right strips ... ouch!

Ellyn Ritterskamp:

Report: OK, these new Breathe Right strips are way cool, but they hurt a lot to take off. Like, a lot. Hot needles in my fingernails would be easier.

I've been using them to help hold my nose open a little better so I can breathe better on runs. This newer design has four points instead of two, and costs a ton more, also.

I had a coupon.

Two more runs this week, then next week we are supposed to get some nice weather, so maybe four or five runs then. That way I'll get through this box of strips faster.

Onward.

Not that it will work for everyone, but the best way to remove them is to do so in the morning shower. Hurts much less and no chance of pulling off skin as well (as I have done before).

I swear by Breathe Right strips, but getting them off in the morning is a major ouch. In the winter I take one bath/shower a day at night, because I don't want to go out with freshly washed hair on chilly NYC mornings. Looking forward to the warmer weather when they will come off easily in a bath. Tomorrow morning I'm going to try and hot wet washcloth on my face for a while see if it helps. Good luck with the running.

Pick up some alcohol swabs at the drugstore. unfold and wedge one gently on each side of the strip. The alcohol will dissolve the adhesive so as it dissolves work it gently up each side of the strip. Comes off much easier. Still leaves residue though. Soap and water and you can rub the gooey remains right off...hope that helps.

I don't have trouble getting the brand name Breathe Right Strips off, but the Rite Aid private brand ones have something like epoxy glue in the adhesive and they are a bitch to remove. I put moisturizer on the ends and that helps somewhat. But they'll still pull off the top layer of your skin if you pull too hard.
